What is a Golf Society?A golf society is a group of players that meet to enjoy a game of golf. Golf societies are often formed by people who have a common interest, for example work colleagues or patrons of a pub. The main advantage of being a member of a golf society is that you will always have someone to have a game of golf with. As golf societies ‘block book’ tee times for reasonably large numbers of golfers at once they are able to negotiate larger discounts than 2 or 4 golfers booking separately. Often golf days organised by the societies can include breakfast, 9 holes of golf in the morning, lunch, 18 holes in the afternoon, and an evening meal for less than a single golfer would pay for 18 holes. Membership of a golf society does not mean that members have to play in all society days or events. Some golf societies have closed memberships in that there is a maximum number of members the society can have. Becoming a member of these societies is difficult and many have long waiting lists. At Ledbury golf society we have open membership and at present membership is free, this may change in the future and an annual membership fee will be charged. The amount and the year start date will be decided at our AGM.
